Hi! Here’s a spot I keep coming back to for Korean beef soup.
This time, I headed over to a restaurant near Sinnonhyeon Station
called Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap.
It’s actually somewhere I’ve been eating for years.
This soup-and-rice restaurant is open 24 hours,
so even when my shift ended at 2 a.m.,
I’d often stop in for a meal.
On this visit, I arrived around 9:30 p.m.
and ordered hanwoo gukbap—Korean beef soup with rice—and hanwoo ttukbaegi bulgogi, marinated Korean beef served in an earthenware pot,
plus a tasting portion of hanwoo yukhoe, seasoned raw Korean beef.
This place specializes in beef, and it shows:
even a single bowl of soup comes generously loaded with meat.
Whenever I want a filling meal near Sinnonhyeon Station,
this is one of the first places that comes to mind.

24-Hour Korean Beef Soup: My Go-To After Work at 2 a.m.
Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap is near Exit 1 of Sinnonhyeon Station
in Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and specializes in soup made with hanwoo, Korea’s native beef.
There aren’t all that many tables,
so I sometimes wonder whether I’ll find a seat during the dinner rush.
This time, though, I arrived around 9:30 p.m.
and sat down right away.
I used to come here after late-night shifts
whenever I craved a warm bowl of soup,
so it’s a pretty familiar spot for me.
Being able to get a genuinely filling meal
even that late at night was something I really appreciated.

An $8 Bowl of Hanwoo Gukbap That Doesn’t Skimp on Beef
The Korean beef soup I ordered this time was $8.
What I like most about the gukbap here
is just how much comes in the bowl.
They also run a beef restaurant,
which might explain why they’re so generous with the meat.
This isn’t one of those bowls that’s mostly broth.
It’s packed with hanwoo and plenty of other ingredients,
making one bowl a surprisingly filling meal.
For me, good broth is important,
but so is the pleasure of scooping up
a spoonful loaded with something substantial.
On that front, Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap
delivers every time I visit.
At $8 for a bowl,
especially with this much beef,
I think it’s pretty good value.

$10 Hanwoo Ttukbaegi Bulgogi: Plenty of Beef and Delicious Broth
Alongside the gukbap,
we ordered the hanwoo ttukbaegi bulgogi.
It costs $10.
This earthenware-pot bulgogi comes with plenty of beef, too,
and it’s another dish I’m always happy to order.
The broth is especially good.
I love picking out the pieces of beef,
but having that delicious broth to enjoy alongside them
makes it a thoroughly satisfying meal.
Some days call for gukbap,
while others leave me craving a pot of bulgogi like this.
At Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap, what I appreciate about both
is that neither skimps on the meat.

Hanwoo Yukhoe for $7? Order It Alongside Your Meal
If you’re visiting Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap,
there’s one more dish I’d recommend.
It’s the hanwoo yukhoe.
The price? Just $7.
Usually, ordering yukhoe
means committing to a full plate,
which can feel like a lot in terms of both price and portion size.
Here, though, there’s a $7
tasting portion of hanwoo yukhoe.
And “tasting portion” doesn’t mean
you’re getting just a tiny bite.
It’s a nice amount to enjoy on the side,
and it tastes great—that’s why I recommend it.
You can tuck into your gukbap or ttukbaegi bulgogi
and enjoy some hanwoo yukhoe alongside it,
which makes for a combination I really like.
If you’re a fan of yukhoe,
try adding it to your meal.

Three Hanwoo Dishes for $25: Why I Keep Coming Back
Hanwoo gukbap: $8
Hanwoo ttukbaegi bulgogi: $10
Hanwoo yukhoe: $7
Total: $25
That covered two main dishes made with hanwoo
plus the tasting portion of yukhoe.
Both the gukbap and the ttukbaegi bulgogi
came with generous amounts of beef,
and the $7 hanwoo yukhoe
was an easy, worthwhile addition.
I’ve been stopping by for years,
and this visit left me just as happily full as ever.
If you’re looking for somewhere to eat near Sinnonhyeon Station,
or craving warm Korean beef soup late at night,
Chilbaek Hanwoo Gukbap is worth a visit.
I always order the yukhoe, too.
The portion is generous for the price,
so whenever I eat here, I pretty much consider it
an essential part of the meal.

Yes—it’s open 24 hours.
I used to stop by after finishing work at 2 a.m.
for a late-night meal.

On this visit, I arrived around 9:30 p.m.

Is the hanwoo yukhoe a good addition to a meal?
Since it’s a tasting portion rather than a full plate,
it’s an easy extra to add to your order.
The serving isn’t too small, and it tastes great,

It may be listed as a side, but it’s delicious enough
to hold its own as the star of the meal.
